DR.Dominick Kwasi Bioh

1970-2023

Dr.Dominick Kwasi Bioh was born on October 25th,1970 in New York City. The first born and only son to Joseph Bioh and Beatrice Yeboah who themselves had newly immigrated to America from Ghana in the late 60's. Dominick spent his early years in the Bronx, where he developed a deep love for music from his parents'eclectic musical tastes and found solace in cartoons and comic books. At the age of 5,his family relocated to the bustling and lively neighborhood of Washington Heights, where he attended kindergarten at P.S.173 and earned himself a new title:Big brother to his little sister Jackie. He helped his parents as best he could and enjoyed sitting on the couch with Jackie and watching cartoons. He made many neighborhood friends, who along with him, transferred to Incarnation School where Dominick would spend the rest of his elementary and middle school years. At Incarnation, he developed an interest in storytelling and eventually joined a writing club.He even dabbled in some broadcast journalism, having taken a short interest in it after attending a program in Yonkers offered to students. Dominick's true joy came from basketball--he played on Incarnation's team for most of his elementary and middle school career. For better or worse, like most New Yorkers, the Bioh family were committed Knicks fans, and Dominick's devotion and investment in them winning a championship never wavered. As Dominick graduated from 8th grade and was about to start high school at the famed Cardinal Hayes Catholic Boys School,he gained another little sister whose name he chose:Jocelyn, nicknamed and affectionately known as "Josie."They formed a special bond as well and it was said that Josie couldn't wait to greet Dominick whenever he came home from school. In high school,Dominick focused more on his studies and started thinking seriously about becoming a doctor. He got an after-school job as a front desk attendant at a cooking class facility on the Upper East Side, while also working as a junior counselor at the local community center:Children's Arts and Sciences

Workshop(CASW)under the mentorship of Lola Gallo and Judith "Judy"Rajek.CASW was like a second family to the Biohs as all the children were deeply involved with the center for nearly 20 years. Eventually Dominick decided to pursue his dreams of medicine and attended Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY as a pre-med major. At Syracuse,Dominick formed deep friendships that, unbeknownst to him, would turn into lifelong bonds.Like any college student,he worked hard while also developing a fun and active social life. After a week of hard studying,Dom loved unwinding to some house and hip hop music at a college party or attending a basketball game of his beloved Syracuse Orangemen (now Orange.)His hard work paid off and upon receiving his Pre-Med degree,he immediately enrolled into Georgetown University School of Medicine. At Georgetown,Dominick committed his time to his education, now zeroing in on his chosen specialty,Internal Medicine. He studied hard and put in many, many long clinical hours. His mother Beatrice says that during that time she was always concerned about how little he slept and ate and was known to bring him large Tupperware ontainers of her famed red rice and potato salad -which were favorites of his.Miraculously, despite his grueling schedule,Dominick fulfilled a goal of his from undergrad: becoming a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.He remained a loyal and devoted brother until his untimely passing.Anyone who knows Dominick will tell you that some of his deepest friendships were formed with his fraternity brothers. He truly loved being an Alpha Man. Upon graduating from Georgetown,Dominick decided to return home to New York City for his residency where he worked at Mount Sinai Hospital.True to form,Dominick was an incredibly hard worker, eventually earning the prestigious title of Chief Resident at Mount Sinai, making history as the first Black person to ever hold that title at Mount Sinai. He developed amazing relationships with the staff and became incredibly devoted to them and their mission, with all of his eventual practices being connected to Mount Sinai for over 20 years. Dominick's greatest life shift came towards the end of his residency when he was set up by friends who said they knew "the perfect lady for him;"a funny, beautiful, charismatic, and smart elementary school teacher from

Brooklyn(with an undeniable accent to match)named Cynthia Robinson.Their connection was a fast and beautiful one with Dominick's friends being pleasantly surprised with how head over heels he fell for her.Even Dominick's family knew that Cynthia was the one as he took great care in quickly folding her and her young daughter Courtney into the family. This born and bred Manhattan Man even relocated to Brooklyn -a sign of true love indeed.By December of 1999,Cynthia and Dominick were married and expecting a daughter together. In May of 2000,Jasmine was born and soon their tiny family grew quickly with Simone being born in March of 2002 and then their last daughter,Danielle in July of 2004.Together,Dominick and Cynthia instilled in their girls love, kindness, responsibility, humor and the importance of family. Dominick's commitment to his work was evident to anyone who knew him.He was passionate about education and community outreach in both his work with his fraternity, but also in his practice. For over 20 years,he dedicated his life to the people of Harlem with a deep desire to educate and curb preventable diseases that plagued many Black communities.Dominick was a member of the Free Masons and The Boulé organizations where he was enthusiastic about mentoring young Black men who were considering going to college. In 2020, Dominick was inducted into the prestigious group The 100 Black Men of America Inc.which is recognized as the nation's top African American led mentoring organization. In 2021,at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic,Dominick was part of a group of volunteer doctors who went into low-income communities to administer and educate people on the safety of the Covid vaccines. A beloved pillar of the community and a man who touched any and everyone he ever encountered,Dominick leaves behind his wife of 24 years Cynthia, his four daughters: Courtney,Jasmine,Simone and Danielle, his mother-in- law,Mildred Robinson, his mother,Beatrice, his father Joseph, and two younger sisters,Jackie and Jocelyn, and brother-in-law Austin. He also leaves behind his first nephew and first grandchild who are due to be born this summer.Dominick was the best friend to many from elementary, highschool, college, grad school and his dear fraternity brothers-all of whom will miss him dearly.
